Seconded to Brunei Shell Petroleum Company, Brunei Darussalam to advise/prepare conceptual development of design packages and reports for the electrification of existing and future offshore fields in the South China Sea off the coast of Brunei using HV submarine cables. Also involved in the initial stages of the conceptual design of a small drilling platform located in the vicinity of the AMPA complex. This included the preparation of the 6.6/11 kV submarine cable specification as well as providing details of cable laying requirements to pipeline Engineer to prepare the subsea cable installation specification. One of the techniques considered assumed the cable would be strapped to the pipeline. Also involved in discussions with local ( Singapore based ) cable laying contractors to assess the cost implications of the cable installation. Also responsible for reviewing and editing Combined Cycle Power Generation Studies report prepared by BSP on behalf of Department of Electricity. This included a review and comments regarding overall power system planning and generation strategies besides deciding the report layout and contents. The work required liaison with multidiscipline engineering groups, maintenance and operations departments and third parties to develop the electrification strategy. Power system analysis was carried out on IPSA. Also responsible as Lead Engineer for the feasibility study to determine the power supply options to feed 3 * 750 kW liquid export pumps for fixed and variable speed drives. System studies were carried out using IPSA. This study addressed the impact on generation in Champion - 7 due to the additional load, the requirements due to the fixed drives starting conditions as well as providing an itemised cost details for the options. Responsible for the feasibility study covering the removal of the 33 kV overhead line connecting Main Intake Substation ( MIS ) and G2 substation. System studies were carried out in IPSA. The study assessed the impact in the network due to the removal of the line and also looked into the alternatives available to provide the same degree of security.

Project Manager for the services provided to TRANSPA regarding the supervision and technical assistance of the operation of the 330 kV and 132 kV Patagonian System. Also responsible for the preparation of the quarterly report submitted to the Secretary of Energy in relation to programming and maintenance execution, availability, reliability, quality of service, plant status and environmental aspects. Specialists in the fields of environment and maintenance provide the required support.

Design review of the electrical aspects of the 2 x 260 MW extension to Rabigh Power Station Stage III for Saudi Consolidated Electricity Company, Saudi Arabia.

Lead Electrical Engineer for the design of the 230 kV switchyard for the 135 MW hydropower plant which will supply EGAT's system in Thailand for Daewoo Corporation, Seoul, South Korea. This assignment included system studies modelling not only the Houay Ho system in Lao PDR but also the 230 kV and 115 kV network in Thailand. Also responsible for the transmission line route selection. It also included the preparation of the tender documents for the 230 kV switchyard including the 2 x 72 MVA generator-transformers as well as the preparation of the tender documents for the 230 kV double circuit transmission line of an approximate length of 170 km.

Lead Electrical Engineer ( six months contract ) responsible for the electrical design of Wytch Farm Stage III Development Phase I and II for British Petroleum in Dorset. This includes the preparation of specifications for Variable Speed Drives, 11 kV/433 V transformers and associated switchboards, their respective requisitions, bid evaluation, design review, installation supervision as well as liaising with BP's Engineers. Also responsible for :

  1. the preparation of the report addressing the Power and 11 kV Cable Requirements for the future Electrical System of Wytch Farm. The environmental constraints such as noise, building height, visual impact of overhead lines, lighting/lanterns to be considered to avoid glare into adjacent areas, cable route which might encompass Sites of Special Scientific Interest ( SSSI ) were also considered in defining the electrical power system requirements.
  2. Inspection of Variable Speed Drives rated 850 kVA and 1040 kVA - Contract Management of subcontractors carrying out specific tasks for BP such as cable route and laying techniques, relay settings studies, load flow and short circuit studies.
  3. the preparation of the Front End Engineering Design document for a new substation to feed 18 Electric Submersible Pumps with a total estimated load of 13 MVA. This was also prepared in close cooperation with the Environmental Experts to ensure the environmental requirements were fully addressed.

Responsible for the coordination of the preparation of environmental reports, design details, specification and bid documents for the 500 MW Gas Turbine Power Plant in open cycle mode. The design and specification included the necessary provisions to convert the power plant from open cycle to combined cycle in the future. It also included a 220 kV, outdoor SF6 type, double busbar substation as well as a small 220 kV/33 kV S/S for the local supply. Also included providing input to the local Civil Engineers and Architects designing the power plant as well as checking/reviewing their design approach. The work was carried out by a team from Electrowatt, Zurich and Lahmeyer International, Frankfurt. This also included participating in meetings with the World Bank, Inter-American Bank for Development as well as presentations to the Minister of Energy and other top level local civil servants. The duties also included setting up the office, hiring personnel ( administrative, technical and engineers ) as well as acting as EWI's representative.
