Jim has extensive experience in project management and design engineering of electrical and mechanical plant for new and the rehabilitation of older hydropower projects. This includes the design, specification and tender assessment for hydroelectric power plant, pumping plant and associated equipment. Supervision of installation and commissioning of electrical and mechanical plant for major and small hydroelectric developments.

North Wales Consultancy agreement for call off contracts. Studies and specification preparation carried out for Ffestiniog PS turbine and storage pump plant and on Dinorwig PS mechanical plant. This work is ongoing and includes presentations and specifications for work leading to the condition assessment of the storage pumps and stripdown of turbines.
The implementation of the rehabilitation programme of the small hydro at power stations Lusiwasi and Chishimba. This commenced with a visit to Zambia to collect information and meet ZESCO management and engineers. The preparation of tender and specification documents.

Provision of technical assistance at site to the main contractor Kerjaya Balfour Beatty Cementation Joint Venture during the final installation and commissioning of the turbine generating plant consisting of four 150MW Francis Turbine Generators operating at 495m net head. This work is ongoing with the provision of assistance with technical problems during the maintenance period and E&M claims period. In November 1998, Chief of Tests for the 150MW Turbine Generator Guarantee Performance Tests which included Thermodynamic Efficiency testing of the turbines and Calorimetric Efficiency testing of the generators. Kvaerner Energy, Alstom, SMEC and TNB were part of the test team.

National Electric Power Authority of Nigeria (NEPA) study in Nigeria and head office for the rehabilitation of Kainji Hydroelectric Power Scheme. The study as part of a NEPA/BEI Utility Partnership Program arranged through ODA included performance testing and inspection of the plant followed by recommendations and reporting on rehabilitation of the units and scheme. Award of consultancy by ODA led to preparation of specifications for rehabilitation.
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board studies in India and head office for the Upgrading of the Hydro Generating units at Pykara, Mettur and Papanasam power stations. The study, arranged through ODA, included performance testing and inspection of the plant followed by recommendations and reporting on rehabilitation and uprating of the units.
A 600 MW development which comprises four 150 MW Francis turbine units at 495 m head. Acting as E&M co?ordinator for the Joint Venture in the turnkey bid for the project.
